Does the Aquaman David wrote for DC stand up to the best the character has been represented in the real DC?
I'd have to say, other than the shortlived Peter David written series (13 issues or something in the early '90s) before his hand came off and he grew the cool beard with the shitty metal shirt, David's Aquaman was more action oriented and wide-screen than most Aquaman I've read. He had personality and focus and scope. It was very impressive and I wish he was still churning ol' Arthur out for us today.

I tried on MORE than one occasion to lure Gibson back to DCA. He just wants no part of it and I feel a little upset about it because I feel DCA needs him to help make the site awesome. He took two relatively joked about characters and made them pretty great. Gibson really turned me around on Aquaman.

The 13 issue series pre-hand/off wasn't David written. But it was alright. I like the PAD Aquaman quite a bit but I really dig the Sub Diego Aquaman by Will Pfeifer and then John Arcudi. They did some awesome shit with him and I thoroughly enjoyed it more overall than PAD's run. I can't recommend this run enough. Issues #15-39 of the most recet series.

Sword of Atlantis can suck my foot.
I am a pretty big fan of that arc myself. I was disappointed I had to stop collecting it, and even more so to find that Arthur was killed for this stupid new Aquaman DC has now.

I hate new versions of characters taken out of left field. The New Batman, the Four New Superman, New Coke, New Green Lanterns, New Blue Beetle...blah, blah blah
I liked Wally stepping up. I liked the IDEA of Bart doing it someday (but not the way they did it). I like Bucky taking over Captain America. I liked Rhodey being Iron Man. "I like to make werewolf movies!" And I LOVED Linda Danvers taking over for Matrix Supergirl.
If Tempest had taken over for Aquaman, maybe. But damnit DC, just QUIT KILLING YOUR HEROES!!!

That's the biggest reason why I wish to keep Ollie dead in DCA. Let Connor Hawke get the opportunity to stand up and become a man free from Ollie's shadow as the Green Arrow. I think that was what made DC a decent universe in letting the heroes go away and replacing them with their sidekicks. To let there be a sense of legacy that the current DC is totally shitting on. The replacements to the staples of DC are people who have no real ties to who they took the mantle over for. That's almost like taking Me and making me into the new Batman. Well, who the fuck am I? Who the fuck is Jamie Reyes? Why is he the Blue Beetle and not even a Blue Beetle recognizable to the one that was the most popular BB ever?
